Resource: Writers’ Village University

When I think back to the early days of my decision to make writing a big part of my life, it wasn’t all butterflies and rainbows. In fact, I shared the opening chapter of my first book and had it absolutely ripped to shreds. It made me exceptionally hesitant to share my work with anyone. And then I happened upon a free writing course offered by Writers’ Village University and decided to take a chance.

Turned out to be the best decision I ever made. Not only was the free writing class a huge boost to my confidence and skill level, it introduced me to the idea that feedback doesn’t have to be bloody and brutal. It can be objective and constructive. It can teach as it corrects. And it can be collaborative and inclusive.

Writers’ Village University is an amazing community of writers and offers a wide-array of writing classes and workshops, all taught by other writers. Plus there are feedback groups and places to just mingle and network. And while there is a fee ($99 per year) it is well worth the investment. Currently, there are 300 course available to members, everything from writing humor to narrative design and conceptual metaphors.

This community touts itself as the kindest writers’ community on the internet, and I’m inclined to agree.

If you’re looking for a place to learn and grow your writing skills, this might be the place you’re looking for.
