Majanka Verstraete

Seventeen-year-old Marisol Holmes may be the great-great-great granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes, but it’s hard to live up to the family name when only one mistake can spell your downfall. After trusting the wrong guy in a case gone totally wrong, Marisol convinces the Conclave, an underground organization of detectives solving supernatural cases, to give her a last chance to prove her worth, and maybe even heal her broken heart

After all, as a half-blood jaguar shifter, Marisol is uniquely qualified to solve this murder—and every scrap of evidence points toward the culprit being a fellow jaguar shifter. But is one of her own people involved, or is this all a ploy to kick Marisol’s mother off the shifter throne?

Then Marisol discovers her best friend, Roan, is missing, and maybe the killer’s next target. The stakes just got higher than political intrigue. Just when things couldn’t get worse, Marisol’s ex-boyfriend-turned-nemesis, Mannix, starts leaving sinister clues for her. Marisol fears this case might be far more personal than she could’ve imagined.

It’s time for Marisol to prove her worth, or her people could fall into chaos while her best friend loses his life.

    A Truly Exceptional Read

Our Review

I love the cover, but the massive cat eye bothers me. I understand why it's big (she looking through a magnifying glass), but it's almost like her eye is too big. I do love the fact that it's her jaugar-side's eye.

Book Blurb:

The book blurb had me hooked from the first word!

Formatting :

The formatting is amazing!

Grammar & Spelling:

There were no mistakes I caught, which is awesome!

Character Development:

I love how the characters develop throughout the story, the main character's development was paced nicely.

Plot & Structure:

I love how the narrator reveals the details of the case that ended horribly in bits and pieces; it really made me want to know what happened and I couldn't seem to read fast enough!

The pacing was phenomenal! The novel's suspense was built up perfectly and I was on the edge of my seating trying to solve the mystery throughout the whole story!

Use of Language:

The use of language was good. The author didn't just stick to simple words and sentences, which made me happy!

I have to admit, I have never heard of a shape-shifting detective story set in a realistic setting before. I love it!

Overall Readability:

The novel was great to read and I was able to keep up with the plot without getting lost!

A Note From the Critic:

I want to read this again, which is unusual for me when it comes to mystery novels; I usually only read them once and never again (unless I really, really love it, like this novel)!

Great review! This sounds like an entertaining and fun read! Glad you liked it! :)
